I Changed My Mind…My New Passive Income Focus

I’m 34 days in, about to launch an affiliate site and…I changed my mind. Originally, I landed on starting a cbd and hemp products (affiliate) company for doggies because my dogs are truly an important part of my life, I know how powerful these product are and how they benefit their health and wellbeing. However, I have spent the last 3 weeks, researching, pulling products together, drafting content and I became increasingly frustrated. The information online is so all over the map and I am not expert. It would take me years to feel comfortable and confident in actually recommending this newly legal product to and for other people’s animals. Plus, Martha Stewart just launched her own line and well, I’m not saying that I couldn’t build a business to compete with her, but why would I?

At first I thought I had just wasted the first 30 days or so going back and forth, but really, it was a necessary step.

So now what?

I decided to stay open and to listen.

Listen to myself, others around me, people that know me etc… and I realized lately that my friends and family are constantly telling me that I should be an interior designer, and until now, I laughed it off. I really don’t think of myself as an interior designer, I’m more of a design curator.

On weekends and in my spare time I’m constantly visiting thrift stores, consignment shops and antique malls. I’m always looking for ways to change up spaces, add a conversation piece, a showstopper, a make-me-feel good item. Every item in my own home has to make sense. I haven’t always been that way but clutter has started to stress me out.

Recently, I’ve been working on redesigning my husband’s law firm, he bought a building that is an early 1900s home, it’s beautiful but it needs work inside as well as some solid decor. I was also asked to design a local non-profit office Fighting Back Santa Maria and I have a few more rooms to finish there, I’m thoroughly enjoying it, and they have loved what I’ve done so far (will share those before and after pics soon).

I have a barn full of finds, a constant desire to curate and I’m fascinated by mixing styles. So there it is, I’m going to curate collections, share before and after room styling, tips, tricks, finds, furniture makeovers, advice and more. I’m also partnering with several companies that I adore to become an affiliate, offering items that combine new and modern, vintage and one-of-a-kind.

Because I am sticking to me, I’m just going to blog under my name Starr Hall, the business will be under Starr Hall Egan aka SHE. More to come.

Here is my first interior design post. I have a ton more I will be sharing in between setting up my store here, and yes, of course it will include affiliate products.

PS- I have to get back into video making so that I can publish better videos, I’m pulling out my video equipment and will work on that. I will also share details on the equipment I recommend.

  1. Love the journey you’re on and enjoy your posts. I started blogging about a month ago and went through similar frustration about narrowing a niche that I’m passionate about. I think for most people, developing an audience is the biggest hurdle. You definitely have a jump start on that. I just had to get started and see where the road takes me. Ultimately listening to my (hopefully) growing audience and giving them more of what they find helpful, useful or enjoy is the recipe I’m following.

In regard to audience, I’m using keywords specific to my passion and interest, joined forums and groups in this niche, utilizing some great SEO and traffic tools to pull audience in and when they arrive if it is relevant to them and they like what they see then I have hit a trigger. I’m figuring out exactly what those triggers are so that I can reach out to the right person at exactly the right time with the most relevant content and product for them. whew though, this is a lot of work. 🙂
